November Match Reports

2nd Nov

Men’s 1st XI

The men’s 1st XI took on STC at home at Rammo. Winning the toss and batting we quickly found ourselves 3-25. It took some solid batting from Cottsy (22) and the rest of the middle order including Dan Castelow (41) on debut, Lenny Dean (23), Kyle Dundas (24) and Vossy (30*) to get us to 9-184 at the close. In the field we were able to pick up an early wicket but STC quickly got to 1-63. But the introduction of secret weapon Lenny Dean (3-21) turned the tide, and we had STC 7-130. Unfortunately, that was the last of our success and they passed us 7 down in 38 overs.

The chicken went to DC on debut for his 41.

Men’s 2nd XI

The men’s 2nd XI also took on STC, this time at HA Smith. STC won the toss and sent us in and we quickly found ourselves in trouble at 4-46. By the time Asher (22) departed we had some serious issues at 5-76. But this brought Kishan (70 off 57) to the crease and he blasted the STC attack everywhere. Together with Smithy (36) and the tail (Parlane with a nosebleed batting at 8 (17) and Amjath (21)) they were able to get us to a fantastic score of 9-234. Dom Van Slag (2/17), Laukik (4/18), Angus Kitt (2/38) and Amjath (2/12) then did the business with the ball, rolling STC for 119 to claim the 6 points.

The chicken went to Kish for his 70.

 Men’s 3rd XI

In the men’s 3s, we won the toss and batted, which didn’t look wise when we were 2fa not many early but looked very wise when we were 2fa plenty later on. This was largely thanks to an incredible partnership from Lachie Muraca (50) and Tim Williams (85). Some late hitting from Empty (17) and Boom Boom Berger (Nathan Sonnberger) (12 off 3) got us up to a score of 6-199. It didn’t take long in the field for us to have BCC 1 down, without a run being scored. It then really didn’t take us long for us to have them 5 down, with the score only on 29. From there it was academic as we bowled them out for 128 in 35.2 overs. Lucas Harris (1/20), Sonnberger (2/15), Angus Grant (3/27), Lucian (2/20) and Empty (2/26) all chipped in to complete victory.

Chicken went to Lachie which of course meant that Tim Williams was the worthy recipient of the Tom Bellis award for cup weekend.

9/10 Nov

Men’s 1st XI

The men’s 1s travelled to Trinity Willison hoping to even out their record at 2-2. Trinity won the toss and batted first and it was Ben Lev that took two massive early wickets. Jimmy chimed in with 2 of his own and we had them at 4/40. They were able to put together a partnership of 100 but when captain Malty got the breakthrough, the rest quickly followed and we bowled them out for 182. Jimmy (2/28) Lev (3/20). Vossy (3/51) and Malty (2/36) did the damage. We were also in trouble early at 3/37 but a nice partnership between DC (26) and Hugh (22) had us well and truly in the game. Although we lost them in quick succession, Lenny took up the slack and has on track but unfortunately ran out of partners in what was his best innings in the 1s. He finished up with 65 off 57 balls and just couldn’t quite get us home.

Chicken went to Lenny.

 Men’s 2nd XI

The 2’s were at home to Trinity. Bowling first, Trinity Racked up a total of 8-252 off their 40. Captain Monty was the standout with 2-23 off 8 with the ball whilst Lou Burstin (2) and Pesky (3) picked up the other wickets. We slumped to 6-77 in reply before Lou and Amjath got together to steady the ship. Together they put on 135 before Amjath departed for 58. From there we lost 4-3, leaving us 40 short with Lou the last man out for a well made 86.

Chicken went to Amjath.

Men’s 3rd XI

The 3’s were also on the road at Holy Trinity. Bowling first it was Naj (1/7), Lucas Harris (2/17), Empty (3/13) and Lucian (2/17) who did the damage rolling them for 96. Cal Behmer and Henry then knocked off the runs with ease, finishing on 65* and 23* respectively.

Chicken to Cal for his entertaining knock.

Men’s 4th XI

The 4s played Blackburn North and batted first at Fairlea. Jonesy (60) and Speedy (32) started off strong taking us to 90 for the first wicket. From there we stumbled a bit but Charlie Kitt (19), Max Sundram (13*) and Harro (15*) got us to a competitive total of 165. Unfortunately, we werent able to make any early inroads with the ball, until one Jack Stinger came on. According to Harro he bowled gas and finished with 3 for 8 off 8 but they were our only wickets for the day and Blackburn passed us in 35th.

I forget who the chicken went to but I’m going to give it to Charlie Kitt for his 19

Men’s 5th XI

The 5’s travelled to Kevin Bartlett reserve and batted first. Scott Morgan (39), Roady (53*) and Blocka (38) put together some solid innings to get us to a score of 8-188. We then had Richmond in a spot of bother at 9-167, but we took one too many wickets and the retired bats came back in to chase our score down in the 33rd. Toughy (3/37), Joffa (3/32) Gilly (1/34) and Geoff Smith (2/28) shared the wickets.

Chicken went to Joffa

Women’s 1st XI - Club Day

Last Sunday, Clifton Hill Women's team faced off against Wyclif in a thrilling contest that went right down to the wire. Clifton Hill clinched a close victory with a final score of 6-146, just edging out Wyclif's 1-142.

The game was defined by the strength of Clifton Hill’s batting lineup, especially the efforts of vice-captain Rebecca Troon, who scored an impressive 50 runs. Troon’s performance helped set a solid foundation, while captain Ash Murdoch anchored the innings, staying not out with a crucial 33 runs. Together, they held off a strong Wyclif side, showcasing skill and determination when it mattered most.

In the field, Tylah Drochmann’s excellent catch was a standout moment, giving Clifton Hill a vital breakthrough and lifting the team’s energy.

It was a beautiful day, with the Clifton Hill men’s team turning out in full support, adding to the game’s vibrant atmosphere. A BBQ celebration afterward capped off the victory, bringing players and fans together to mark a hard-fought and well-deserved win. 16-17 Nov 2024

Women’s 1st XI

4-97 DEF BY NORTHCOTE 3-131

Coming off an awesome last-over win on Club Day, The Women’s XI travelled up Heidelberg Rd to take on neighbours and new rivals Northcote United. We sent Northcote into bat and they put on a solid total of 131. Eloise Brown and skipper Ash Murdoch were economical (both with rates of 3.5) and Maya Harrington got two wickets as well as a run-out! Unfortunately it was a few runs too many for us to chase down, despite the valiant efforts of Tylah Drochmann and skipper Ash with scores of 36* and 17* respectively.

 Men’s 5th XI

0-200 DEF RICHMOND 195

Richmond sent in the 5th XI at Burnley Oval, much to the delight of openers Neale Baldwin and Gaz Nelson who cashed in with retired 50s each. Roady followed suit with 37 retired, Adam Lewis with 50 red and Eddie with a single run (red) to take us to a total of 200. It turned out to be 5 runs too many for Richmond with bowlers Geoff Smith, Neale & Roady all taking two apiece, Jeff Burstin also sending down 3 overs for just 10 runs and also a handy wicket, bowling Richmond all out for 195.

 Men’s 4th XI

9-120 DEF BY DEEPDENE 2-122

The 4th XI came up against Deepdene out at Hays Paddock. Batting first, Jonesy again got the 4th XI off to another great start scoring 47 runs, however much of the batting fell away from there and we managed just 120, down to our last wicket. Angus Habersberger removed one of the openers and an uncredited run out removed the other both for ducks, which made way for Deepdene’s no. 3 & 4 to chase down our target despite the best efforts of the bowlers.

 Men’s 3rd XI

100 DEF BY WEST IVANHOE 2-102

West Ivanhoe sent in the 3rd XI at Fairlea and reduced us to just 100 runs. They didn’t put the brakes on in the second innings of the match as they managed to chase down the total in just 12 overs.

 Men’s 2nd XI

7-226 DEF BUCCC 9-223

The 2nd XI stuck to their tried and tested formula of bowling first against Burwood Uniting Canterbury. Skipper Monty and Peakey claimed two apiece and young gun Angus Kitt cleaned up with a solid 4-for, leaving a total of 226 to chase (that’s not enough). After losing the openers early, Auley came in at first drop to score his highest score in the 2s of 92*, with Stan coming in at no. 6 and contributing 54 runs in a vital partnership. We managed to chase down the total with two overs to spare.

Men’s 1st XI

9-174 DEF BY BUCCC 7-187

The 1s started their double header weekend against Burwood out in the field. Unfortunately there werent any early wickets with BUCCC racing to 2-151 but some fantastic bowling and fielding pulled them back to 7-187 off their 40. Jimmy was the pick of the bowlers with 1/22 off 8 whilst Steve and Malty picked up 2 and 3 wickets respectively. We never really got going in the chase with a few scores of 20 and 30, the highlights being Jim (27) and Lev (20*) getting us close but not close enough as we needed more from the top order.

Chicken to Steve.

3-122 DEF GWCC 120

Sunday brought a reduced overs match against Glen Waverley and the ones were really able to get their season rolling. Bowling first it was Lev (2/17), Wardy (2/27) Steve (3/13 and 3 run outs that skittled GW for 120 in 25 overs. In reply it was the Nick Voss show as he raced to 65 off 46 balls and with some help from the president (43*) we knocked off the runs in 16 overs.

Being a sunday, the chicken wasn't announced but would surely go to Vossy for his blistering 65.
